Lions Swipe a Pair in CACC DH vs. Bloomfield

LAKEWOOD, NJ- In a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to take place on the road, the Georgian Court University softball team took advantage of the unexpected comforts of home, sweeping Bloomfield College, 4-1 and 9-1 (5), in CACC action. The twin-bill was moved to Lakewood, NJ because the Lady Deacons' home diamond is unplayable due to new sod.

In game one, Diana Sansevera (10-1), was perfect through the first four innings before 3B Ashleigh Williams (Fr. Manassas, VA) lofted a flyball that LF Chelsea Long lost in the sun for a single. The GCU ace, who struck out 14 and 13 batters, respectively, in her previous two starts this week, K'd 13 Lady Deacons this afternoon, including nine of the first 12 batters of the contest.

C Donnie Brossoie followed with a single up the middle (advancing Cuevas to third) before stealing second base. With two outs, 2B Sammie Jo Garofalo laced a single to left, plating Cuevas for a 1-0 lead. DP Brooke Hull launched her third home run of the year, a three-run shot to center, in the bottom of the sixth to give GCU three insurance tallies.

Williams broke up Sansevera's shutout with a solo shot to center in the seventh.

In the second frame of the nightcap, the Lions (16-6, 3-1 CACC) dropped a six-spot on Bloomfield's game one offensive star as Williams (4.0 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 1 BB)  took to the circle for the Lady Deacons. In the third inning, Lyndsey PeQueen (pictured), making her first career start as GCU's DP, clobbered her first collegiate home run. 3B Kelsey Cutler walked off Bloomfield (6-5, 2-2 CACC) with her sixth long ball, a mighty blow that cascaded down the trees over the left-center field fence.

Cutler went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. PeQueen, who is now batting .600 (6-for-10) on the year, was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.
