KISSIMMEE, FL- The Georgian Court University softball team had their blazing bats abruptly iced for most of Game Two of Friday's twin-bill at the Rebel Spring Games,a contest that eventually went to #13 Saginaw Valley State University, 8-5, in nine innings.
Both teams exchanged zeros on the scoreboard before the Cardinals (1-0) got to GCU starter Lyndsey PeQueen (2-1) in the top of the fifth, scoring three tallies in the frame.
SVSU ace Jade Fulton (Jr.-Byron, MI) (6.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 12 K) was simply masterful, no-hitting the Lions until one out in the seventh inning before yielding an infield hit to SS Sammie Jo Garofalo. 2B Rachel Ruch# then strolled to the dish and cranked a 1-2 pitch over the center field wall, scoring CF Jess Comiskey, who had walked, and Garafalo to tie the game at 3-3.
The two squads would each tally a pair of runs in the eighth before SVSU plated three in the ninth to seal the victory.
Cardinals reliever Kari Bowlby (Sr.-Elkhart, IN) earned the "W", allowing two runs (0 ER) on two hits and two walks. Lauren Memmer (So.-White Lake, MI) pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
