KISSIMMEE, FL- The Georgian Court University softball squad ended its annual trek to the Sunshine State, earning a come-from-behind victory over Shippensburg University by a score of 7-3. The Lions end the trip with a 9-3 record.
The Raiders (3-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run, bases-loaded single from SS Abby Block (So.-Drexel Hill, PA). DP Kiley Abersold (Sr.-Philipsburg, PA) made it 3-0 Shippensburg with a solo homer in the second.
GCU plated its first run of the contest in the top of the fourth inning on a ribbie double from 3B Courtney Cuevas. With two outs, 1B Kelsey Cutler came in from third to make the score 3-2 as LF Chelsea Long reached on an error by Raiders 2B Hope Cornell (Jr.-Dagsboro, DE).
Georgian Court gained the advantage in the top of the fifth. SS Sammie Jo Garofalo reached on a fielder's choice and immediately stole second. 2B Rachel Ruch tied the contest at 3-all as she drove in Garofalo with a double in the left-center gap. DP Brooke Hull (pictured) then tallied an RBI hit of her own, plating Ruch with a single up the middle and giving the Lions a 4-3 lead.
Hull garnered two more RBI with a seventh inning single to left that brought in Garafalo and Ruch after they reached with a single and double, respectively. After advancing to third on a base hit from Cutler, Hull scurried home on a Chelsea Kendall (So.-Dowingtown, PA) wild pitch to make it 7-3 Lions.
Kendall (0-4) took the loss for the Raiders, allowing seven runs (6 ER) on 10 hits and three walks. She also struck out six.
PeQueen improved to 3-1 on the season, yielding three runs on seven hits and two bases-on-balls, while striking out one batter.
