Lions Pounce All Over Goldey-Beacom College, 9-1 and 15-0

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The Georgian Court University softball team matched its season-high winning streak Wednesday afternoon, defeating CACC-foe Goldey Beacom College, 9-1 (6) and 15-0 (5), for their fourth and fifth consecutive victories.

The Lions' offense immediately got to work in the home half of the first as GCU plated two runs in the frame.

Reigning CACC Player of the Week, Jess Comiskey, reached on a dropped pop fly by Lightning shortstop, Ashley Paige (So.-Middletown, DE). Comiskey promptly stole second, the speedster's seventh swipe in seven attempts this season. 2B Sammie Jo Garofalo followed with a bases-on-balls. Paige permitted the loading of the bases on a Rachel Ruch grounder as she overthrew teammate Jordan Waterloo (So.-Waldorf, MD) when attempting to throw Comiskey out at third. DP Brooke Hull then rapped a two-run single off the leg of Goldey-Beacom hurler Sadie Jones (So.-Milford, DE), scoring Comiskey and Garofalo.

GCU poured on three runs in the fifth inning, led by a RBI single from Comiskey and a ribbie double to center by Garofalo.

Georgian Court  (23-7, 10-2 CACC) added another two-spot in the fifth, courtesy of a two-bagger off the base off the right field fence by LF Melissa DePalma (pictured). Brossoie ended the contest in the sixth inning with a two-out, two-run double to right, her fourth hit of the game.

Diana Sansevera improved to 14-2 in the circle, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in the complete game effort.

Jones suffered the defeat, permitting five runs (two earned) on seven hits and a free pass.

Game Two was over before it began as the Lions sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring 11 runs on eight hits, two walks and two hit batters.

GBC starting pitcher Leanne Miller (Fr.-Vineland, NJ) had nothing in her arsenal that could stiffle the GCU lineup, going only two-thirds of an inning.

Comiskey (3-for-3), Garofalo (2-for-3) and Ruch (2-3), Georgian Court's 1-2-3 hitters, scored three runs apiece,

Hull had a day for the ages at the dish, going 2-for-4 with two RBI in the opener and 2-for-2 in the nightcap, including a three-run homer, grand slam and an astounding eight RBI.

Oh yeah, she also earned the victory in the circle in Game Two, firing a two-hit, complete game shutout, improving to 5-1 in the win-loss column.

Brossoie finished the day going 5-for-7 with three RBI.

The Lightning fall to 12-10 on the season (6-7 CACC).
