WEST ISLIP, NY- The Georgian Court University tennis squad, in a rare evening match, dropped a 5-4 decision vs. Dowling College Tuesday night at St John the Baptist High School.
The Lions took a 2-1 lead after winning a pair of doubles matches. The #2 duo of
Brittany Aimone and
Natalie Grieci defeated
Amber O'Malley (Fr.-Farmingville, NY) and
Cristina Sousa (Sr.-Selden, NY) by a score of 8-2.
Brooke Culver and
Victoria Gaffney teamed up at #3 doubles to topple Dowling's
Chanida Monparpunth (So.-Lindenhurt, NY) and
Jessica Seney, 8-0.
The Golden Lions (5-1) came back to win four of the six singles matches. Georgian Court (1-4) did not go down easily, however, as Gaffney (6-2, 3-6, 7-10), Grieci (4-6, 6-1, 4-10) and
Lindsay Hammond (1-6, 7-5, 3-10) took their respective opponents to third-set tiebreakers before succumbing.
Hilary Gall triumphed in #2 singles for GCU as she swept
Cristina Hoffman (Sr.-Floripa, Brazil), 6-4, 6-1.
Sarah Lockenmeyer cruised past Seney in #6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Lions return home on Thursday afternoon for a 4PM match vs. Shippensburg University at GCU's Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center.
