WILMINGTON, DE-Farrell Pomponio's golden goal with 48 seconds left in the second overtime session lifted Georgian Court University over host Goldey-Beacom College, 3-2, and clinched the Lions' a playoff spot and its sixth straight winning season at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field Tuesday afternoon.
GBC (6-8, 4-7 CACC) squandered 1-0 and 2-1 leads before regulation and ultimately surrendered the game-winning goal by Pomponio. Kelly Lyons tallied her team-leading 11th goal for GCU's first score of the day. Nicole Petrosino also netted her third score of the season in the contest.
Becky Witmer contributed two assists, tying her for the club lead with six on the year.
Shealyn Sullivan collected three saves on 14 Lightning shots in net for Georgian Court.
The loss mathematically eliminates the Lightning from earning the eighth and final seed in the CACC Tournament while Georgian Court, with its fourth straight victory, improves to 10-7 overall and 7-5 in league play.
The Lions end their regular season this Thursday afternoon with a non-conference road contest at Dowling College. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
