PHILADELPHIA- The Georgian Court University tennis squad earned a solid 7-2 CACC victory Thursday afternoon at University of the Sciences, snapping their season-long six-match losing streak in the process.
The contest opened with a 3-0 sweep in doubles action. The GCU tandem of Maria Leal and
Sarah Lockenmeyer toppled
Sara Durham (So.-Bridgeton, NJ) and
Melissa White, 8-3, in the #1 slot.
Victoria Gaffney and
Nicole Way followed with an 8-5 triumph over
Juliet Choi (Jr.-New City, NY) and
Laney Jones (Jr.-Blakeslee, PA) while
Heather Jensen and
Jen Tartaglia earned their first collegiate victories in an 8-6 defeat of
Michelle Adamczyk (So.-Bensalem, PA) and
Thuy Tien Vo.
In #1 singles play, Leal defeated Durham (6-3, 6-1) while Gaffney earned her first singles win of the season, erasing Jones by a 7-5, 6-3 mark in the #2 position.
Way collected her team-leading sixth singles victory in the #4 spot, dropping White, 6-0, 6-4. Jensen solidified a perfect day with her first singles win, defeating Adamczyk, 8-0, in the #6 position.
GCU imporves to 2-7 (2-3 CACC) on the year while the Devils fall to 1-3 (1-3 CACC). The Lions return to the court on Monday afternoon when they travel out of conference for a 12:00 PM match at Queens College.
