Melissa DePalma
CLERMONT, FL- The Georgian Court University softball team took to the diamond Friday afternoon at the NTC Spring Games looking to confute the national rankings of both of its opponents, #18 Rollins College and #16 University of Tampa. Unfortunately, Goliath proved mightier than David in both instances as the Lions fell to Rollins, 9-0 (6 inn.), and Tampa, 12-3 (5 inn.).

GAME ONE

Rollins scored one run in each of the first five innings and dropped a four-spot on the Lions in the sixth frame as the #18 Tars cruised to a 9-0, six-inning victory over Georgian Court and improved to 12-1 on the campaign.

Georgian Court could muster only three hits off the Rollins pitching staff with DP Melissa DePalma, P Brooke Hull and 2B Rachel Ruch providing the knocks.

Hull suffered the loss in the circle for GCU, falling to 2-5 on the week. The Lions fell to 2-7 after the defeat.

GAME TWO

It was more of the same for the Lions in the nightcap as Tampa plated 12 runs in the first four innings, headlined by a six-run third frame, before ending the contest in the fifth inning. With the triumph, the #16 Spartans improve to13-1.

DePalma continued her torrid hitting, collecting two more RBI to give her six over her last four games. She leads the club in hitting with a .429 average this week (6-for-14).  1B Courtney Cuevas provided the other ribbie with a double in the fifth inning.

Starting pitcher Shannon Dukes fell to 0-3 in the win-loss column with the defeat. The Lions dropped to 2-8 overall.

Georgian Court concludes its Florida visit Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 PM faceoff vs. #11 Winona State University and a 3:30 PM showdown with American International College.
