Lions Breeze Through Double Dip at Chestnut Hill ... Extend Winning Streak to Nine

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The Georgian Court University softball squad cruised through a CACC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Chestnut Hill College, easily besting the Griffins, 7-1 and 12-3 (6 inn.), to extend the Lions' winning streak to nine straight victories. The streak is GCU's longest since winning 10 straight back in 2008 (4/5-4/15).

Reigning NFCA Division II National Pitcher of the Week and CACC Pitcher of the Week Diana Sansevera breezed to her seventh victory of the campaign (7-4), yielding three hits and a lone earned run, while walking none and striking out six, in the complete game effort.

1B Courtney Cuevas led the Game One barrage with a perfect 4-for-4 effort at the dish that included two doubles and three RBI. CACC Player of the Week, 2B Rachel Ruch, contributed a 3-for-4 showing with a pair of two-baggers, three runs scored and a ribbie.

DP Brooke Hull (1-for-3) launched a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, her third of the season.

Shannon Dukes, matched her teammates with her own personal nine-game victory streak as she improved to 9-5 on the year after holding Chestnut Hill (4-28, 1-19 CACC) to three runs (2 ER) on seven hits in six complete innings. Dukes also struck out five in her team-leading 11th complete game of the year.

Five Lions tallied two RBI apiece, including CF Jess Comiskey (2-for-3, R), 3B Sammie Jo Garofalo (3-for-5, 2 R, 2B), Ruch (1-for-3, R, 2B), C Kelsey Cutler (2-for-4) and SS Selina Santillo (1-for-3, R, 2B).

GCU (20-18, 12-4 CACC) moves into sole possesion of second place in the CACC standings with the win. The Lions immediately return to action Thursday afternoon with another CACC twin-bill, this time in Waterbury, CT vs. Post University.
