PHILADELPHIA, PA- The Georgian Court University softball squad extended its winning streak to 12 straight victories with a 5-2 triumph at Philadelphia University Tuesday afternoon before seeing it snapped in the nightcap, 6-4. The Lions (23-19, 15-5 CACC) currently place second in the CACC standings, two games behind first-place Concordia College.
The winning streak was GCU's longest since winning 16 straight contests in 2003 (3/29-4/23).
Diana Sansevera (9-4) won her fifth straight decision in the opener, yielding two runs (1 ER) on seven hits and a walk in the complete-game effort. She also struck out eight Lady Rams.
The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, courtesy of a solo homer from 3B
Sammie Jo Garofalo, (her third of the season) and a two-run shot by DP
Brooke Hull (her 4th).
Garofalo (2-for-4) added a two- run single the very next inning to give GCU a commanding 5-0 advantage. Hull finished a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks in the game. C
Kelsey Cutler contributed a 2-for-4 effort and scored a run.
The Lady Rams (15-18, 9-11 CACC) never trailed in the nightcap as they led 4-0 after three innings and 6-2 after five. The Lions made it interesting a with a lone tally in the top of the sixth and seventh, but could not erase the Philly lead.
Hull (1-for-3) blasted her second dinger of the day for GCU in the sixth inning, a solo shot. CF
Jess Comiskey (1-for-4) provided a two-run single in the fifth frame while 1B
Courtney Cuevas )1-for-4) smacked a ribbie single in the seventh.
Shannon Dukes (10-6) saw her personal 10-game winning streak come to a close as she permitted five runs (4 ER) on seven hits and a walk in four innings of work. Dukes, who had not lost a game since March 16th at Millersville University, also struck out three.
Georgian Court takes to the road again, this time for a trip to Goldey-Beacom College, Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
