Lions Back to Winning Ways with Sweep at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, DE- A day after having its 12-game winning streak snapped at Philadelphia University, the Georgian Court University softball squad immediately returned to its winning ways as the Lions swept a CACC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Goldey-Beacom College, 5-0 and 7-4.

GCU, the #8 team in the latest NCAA Division II East Regional Poll, has now been victorious in 14 of its last 15 contests.

Diana Sansevera dominated the Lightning (17-19, 8-16 CACC) in the opener as she crafted a two-hit masterpiece (1 BB) while striking out nine batters in the complete-game effort. The Lions' ace improves to 10-4 on the season and drops her ERA to 1.83 while winning her sixth straight decision.

Georgian Court (25-19, 17-5 CACC) clubbed 13 hits in the contest, led by 3B Sammie Jo Garofalo's 3-for-4 effort at the dish, which included a double, run and RBI. CF Jess Comiskey (2-for-4), RF Melissa DePalma (2-for-2, R) and LF Christine Masitti  (2-for-2, RBI) enjoyed multi-hit performances.

Shannon Dukes improved to 11-6 in the circle for the Lions in the nightcap after yielding four runs on 11 Goldey-Beacom hits and three walks in 5.1 IP, while striking out three. Brooke Hull came in and pitched 1.2 innings of one-hit ball to earn GCU's first save of the year.

Garofalo repeated her line from the opener with another 3-for-4 (2 R) showing in game two while 2B Rachel Ruch countered with a 2-for-4 contribution, which included a triple, two runs scored and three RBI.

C Kelsey Cutler (1-for-4), Hull (1-for-4) and Masitti (1-for-1, 3 BB) also provided a RBI.

The second-place Lions return to action Friday afternoon when they host a twin-bill with the University of New Haven at 3PM. The ballgames will commence following GCU's annual Senior Day festivities.
