Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University tennis team earned a 7-2 victory over Georgian Court Wednesday afternoon to improve the team's record to 2-2, dropping the Lions to 3-9.
Georgian Court was able to take the first two matches of singles play by beating the Marauders' top two players. Maria Leal defeated Melissa Plowman to get the match started in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. The Lions'
Victoria Gaffney then took care of Kelsey Waite 6-4, 6-4. From there, however, the Marauders rolled, winning seven straight matches.
Elizabeth Wagner got Millersville back on track, winning her matchup with Nicole Way 7-6, 6-2. Alexandra Heller followed up Wagner with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Heather Jensen. Jess Taleff kept the Marauders winning string going by defeating Samantha Hanson in a three-set victory of 6-3, 5-7, 10-5. Maggie Karr closed out singles play by winning her matchup with the Lions' Vanessa Flores 6-0, 6-2.
Doubles play saw Millersville claim all three matchups. Plowman and Waite teamed up to defeat Gaffney and Leal, 8-4. In the middle match, the duo of Heller and Wagner topped Way and Jensen by a score of 8-2. The Marauders finished off the Lions in convincing fashion, as Taleff and Karr turned in the most dominating doubles performance of the afternoon with an 8-1 win over Hanson and Flores.
