Bronxville, N.Y. – The Clippers women's tennis team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Georgian Court University at the Meyers Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. A 9-0 victory by Concordia secured their fourth straight CACC regular season championship and capped a perfect 8-0 record in CACC play.
The Clippers began the match with wins in doubles play to begin the afternoon. Clara Catanzano (Sete, France) and Ana Mendes (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) grabbed an 8-1 victory in the No. 1 doubles match. Alla Kravchuk (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Camilla Xavier (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) took an 8-0 shutout win at No. 2 doubles as did the duo of Yuliya Plevako (Astana, Kazakhstan) and Zi Ling (Changsha, China) in the No. 3 doubles match to give Concordia a 3-0 advantage.
In singles play, Luisa Candido (Boca Raton, Fla.) captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles while Mendes grabbed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles to secure the overall victory for the Clippers. Kravchuk followed shortly thereafter with a 6-0, 6-4 win in her No. 1 singles battle.
The three remaining singles matches would be "pro set" scoring to eight points. Catanzano and Nicole Stuhr (Glendora, Calif.) would each shutout their opponents 8-0 while Estelle Fougeray (Argences, France) took an 8-1 victory to give Concordia the 9-0 match win.
The Clippers (8-0, 8-0 CACC) have won 32 straight CACC regular season matches since joining the conference in 2009 and earns the top seed in the post season tournament. Concordia will now wait for the remainder of the CACC teams to conclude their conference schedule to determine who they will face.
