Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/11/2012) – Chestnut Hill College cruised to their third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory with Tuesday's 9-0 dismissal of Georgian Court University. Opening their home court in good showing, the Griffins swept doubles play before dominating singles action with no Lion scoring more than a point per set.
Senior
Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Belarus, Minsk) and junior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) led-off doubles play for Chestnut Hill College (4-0, 3-0). The top Griffin duo scored an 8-4 win at number one doubles. The Griffins also topped Georgian Court University (0-2, 0-1) at number two and three doubles. Senior
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) and sophomore
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) won number two doubles, 8-2, while the freshman combination of
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) and
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) claimed number three doubles by the same final, 8-2.
Singles play went even better for the Griffins with Shcherbakova, Oechsle, and Williams-Mulesa winning number two, four, and five singles, 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Dennis won number one singles 6-1, 6-0, Parapouras scored a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three singles, and sophomore
Alexis Puhl (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned her second singles win of the year with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number six singles.
The Lions play their home opener Thursday afternoon when they welcome Queens College to the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center at 4:00 p.m.
