LAKEWOOD, NJ- Katie Vecchio and Tori Capestro teamed up for a goal for the third time in 2012 and goalkeeper Casey O'Connor solidified her second shutout of the campaign as the Georgian Court University soccer squad denied visiting Dominican College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in CACC action.
The Lions (3-2-1, 2-1 CACC) and Lady Chargers (1-4, 1-2 CACC) played a scoreless first half before lighting up the scoreboard in the 56th minute of play (55:05) when Capestro crossed a pass to Vecchio that she one-timed into the net for the tally.
For Vecchio, the goal marked her second of the season and represented her team-leading seventh and eighth points. Capestro trails her teammate with seven points of her own.
O'Connor collected one save on three total Dominican shots to secure the shutout and victory for Georgian Court. Dominican's Veronica Iozzi (Jr., Chester, NJ) suffered the defeat, denying five GCU shots and permitting the lone goal in the 90:00 effort.
GCU outshot its guests, 8-3, and dominated with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Georgian Court now takes to the road with a "main event" conference match-up at Holy Family University, the reigning CACC champions, this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
