PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team won a season-high third match in a row by taking down visiting Georgian Court, 7-2, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon on the Abraham J. Salaman Tennis Courts.
Philadelphia improves to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the CACC. Georgian Court is now 1-4 overall and 1-2 against the conference.
The Lady Rams got off to a fast start with victories in all three doubles matches. The first point of the day came from the No. 3 tandem of Magill Kurts and Sayre Limburg who were 8-1 winners. Kaylee Fennern and Elizabeth Verbits took the No. 2 match by an 8-4 court. The No. 1 team Olivia Amato and Isabella Espinosa were pushed to the limit by Melissa Dennis and Maria Leal before claiming a hard-fought 9-7 win.
Kurts earned the Lady Rams' fourth point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Heather Jensen in the No. 5 singles match. Alyssa Tullar provided the match-clinching point by defeating Vanessa Flores in the No. 6 flight, 6-1, 6-1.
Espinosa came out victorious in the No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-1, over Maria Leal. In the No. 2 match, Ferrern won the final point, 6-3, 6-1 against Victoria Gaffney.
Dennis topped Philadelphia's Amato, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 3 singles while Nicole Way defeated Verbits, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 4 slot to solidify GCU's two points.
The Lions travel back to Philadelphia on Friday to participate in this weekend's Wilson/ITA Regional Championship, hosted by Chestnut Hill College.
