Bronxville, N.Y. – The Clippers women's soccer team took on Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Holtdorf Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. Concordia would score their lone goal in the second half of play but it would not be enough as the Lions grabbed a 4-1 win for their fifth victory of the season (5-2-1, 4-1 CACC).
Georgian Court wasted no time scoring in the match as a goal by from Tara Troisi off a Becky Witmer corner kick 60 seconds into play would give them the early lead. Near the end of the half Georgian Court added another goal, courtesy of #Elizabeth Lawler# (Kerry Strohmeier assist), to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Clippers would be outshot in the half, 8-2, as the Lions also held a 5-0 edge in corner kick opportunities.
In the second half Concordia would allow two more goals, this time from GCU's pair of Katie's, reigning CACC Rookie of the Week Katie Vecchio and Katie Schieder, as the Clippers fell behind 4-0 after 64 minutes of play.
In the 68th minute the Clippers would get on the scoreboard as Glenicia Mullings (Queens, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season. After a scrabble in the box, the ball trickled to Mullings who was positioned at the top of the box. She then chipped a shot into the air and it went over the goalkeepers' head and into the goal.
Concordia (0-6, 0-4 CACC) could not get another opportunity to score in the game as time would soon run out. Goalkeeper Johana Vargas (Queens, N.Y.) would record three saves in the loss for the Clippers as fouls were called evenly for both sides at seven apiece.
GCU keeper Casey O'Connor permitted no goals and tallied a save in 64:43 to earn her 5th victory of the season (5-2-1).
The Lions return home to host Chestnut Hill College in another CACC contest this Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
