CALDWELL, N.J. – The Georgian Court University tennis squad won a close Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual vs. Caldwell College, 6-3 at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts on Tuesday. The result gives the Lions a 2-4 record on the season (2-2 CACC), while the Cougars are now 1-5, 0-4 CACC.
The Lions opened the day by winning two of three doubles matches. The tandem of Victoria Gaffney and Nicole Way topped Caldwell's duo of Gwynne and Paige Alden, 8-6. Samantha Hanson and Heather Jensen dropped Alyssa Brillante and Danielle Levasseur, 8-3.
GCU's Maria Leal cruised in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Caldwell's Emily Slater. Melissa Dennis won her third singles match of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Paige Alden in the No. 3 slot. Jensen won a thrilling No. 5 contest vs. Brillante, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Vanessa Flores earned her first collegiate singles win by dropping Levasseur, 8-5.
Georgian Court returns home for another CACC contest Thursday afternoon when they host Goldey-Beacom College at 3:30 p.m.
