LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The Georgian Court University tennis squad hosted West Chester University Saturday afternoon in the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center as the Golden Rams defeated the host-Lions, 7-2.
The Golden Rams (3-0) won five of the six singles matches over Georgian Court (2-6). In top singles action, Brittany Counts stopped Maria Leal 6-0, 4-6, 10-7. Ali Fetter beat Victoria Gaffney 6-0,6-2. Alex Santoro turned away Melissa Dennis 6-1,6-1. GCU's Nicole Way dropped,Gabriela Durand, 6-3, 6-0, to earn her third singles victory of the year, West Chester's Haley Wissinger defeated Heather Jensen 6-0, 6-1 and Nicole Nardi shut out Vanessa Flores 6-0, 6-0 to close out singles competition.
In doubles play, the Golden Rams top team of Counts and Fetter beat Leal-Dennis 8-6. In other doubles action, the GCU duo of Gaffney and Way defeated West Chester's Durand and Jami Dumler, 8-4. Santoro and Nardi defeated Jenson-Hanson 8-0 to round out the doubles matchups.
The Lions return to conference play Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. match at Concordia College.
