Caldwell, N.J.- The Georgian Court University tennis squad cruised to a 9-0 decision at Caldwell College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action Wednesday afternoon, improving to 2-6 (2-4 CACC) on the year.
The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a clean sweep in doubles play. The Georgian Court tandems of
Melissa Dennis and Maria Leal (8-4),
Kayanna Chandler and
Annmarie Wodell (8-0), and
Meredith Hoffman and
Heather Jensen (8-0) all proved victorious.
Both Leal and Chandler faced formidable challenges in singles action as both needed three sets to secure the win. Leal, in #1 singles play, defeated Caldwell's
Emily Slater (So.-Cliffwood Beach, N.J.) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Chandler, in the #2 slot, outlasted
Gwynne Alden (Jr.-Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) 0-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Melissa Dennis improved her team-leading singles mark to 5-3 with an 8-2 decision in the #4 position. Wodell (#3), Hoffman (#5), and Jensen (#6) also triumphed in solo play.
The Cougars fall to 1-7 (1-5 CACC) with the defeat.
Georgian Court now hosts Goldey-Beacom College Thursday afternoon in the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center. The CACC contest begins at 3:30 p.m.
