Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad, seeking its third consecutive victory, instead experienced defeat for the first time in its home gym as the Lions faltered vs. visiting Goldey-Beacom College, 85-73, Tuesday evening in the GCU Wellness Center.
The Lions slide to 2-4 (0-2 CACC) with the setback while the Lightning even its record at 3-3 (1-1 in conference play).
Georgian Court enjoyed an auspicious start as the home team sprinted out to a 12-5 lead just 5:10 into the contest. GCU remained in the black until GBC's
Jarrel Lane (Jr.-Rahway, N.J.) evened the score at 27-27 with a layup at 5:57 to go. With the scoreboard knotted at 31-31 with 3:55 to go, the Lions raced to intermission on a 8-5 run to enter the locker room with a 39-36 advantage.

Keith Hughes layup put GCU up 45-42 at 16:25, which proved to be the Lions' final surplus of the night. A
Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (Fr.-New Castle, Del.) three-ball knotted the affair, 45-45, and commenced a Goldey-Beacom offensive attack that featured divers contributors.
With the score tied for the final time (47-47) at 14:57, the Lightning took sole possession of the lead after a
Chris Gebhart (Jr.-Cherry Hill, N.J.) layup put the visitors up, 49-47. GBC proceeded to stay in front by single digits until a Lane three-pointer made the deficit ten at 73-63 with 2:57. Goldey-Beacom would close the evening on a 12-10 spurt to finish the game with a high-water mark, 12-point advantage.
Kyle Steinbergin (Jr.-Englewood, N.J.) topped the guests with 26 points, including a game-high seven shots made from downtown, in a 40-minute effort. Higgs followed with 13 points and three assists in 23 minutes.
Donte McGill (Fr.-Newark, Del.) drained 12 points in 17 minutes off the Lightning bench. Lane provided 11 points and a game-high seven assists while
Will Williams (Sr.-Flushing, N.Y.) also dropped in 11, to go along with four dishes. Gebhart proved to be a menace under the basket as he swatted a game-high five shots.
Hughes enjoyed a monster of a game, shooting 11-for-16 from the floor, as the GCU freshman tallied 26 points in 38 minutes. The Woodbridge, N.J. native also snared a game-high 14 boards to earn his first collegiate double-double. Jordan Wejnart fell just short of his second double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes.
Jalen Robinson netted 12 points and grabbed five off the glass in 22 minutes.
GCU returns to action this Saturday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference home contest vs. Pace University.
