Lincoln University, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad, playing its first road contest since November 13, suffered a 85-76 setback Tuesday evening at Lincoln University. The loss, the Lions' third straight, drops GCU's record to 2-6.
GCU jumped out to an initial 7-2 lead after an
Alex Ramirez layup at 17:08. Following a lacuna of scoring over the next 2:13, Lincoln cut the deficit to 7-6 and an 8-7 advantage at 13:55, courtesy of a
Stefan Whittingham (Sr.-Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) layup. A
Jordan Wejnert free throw tied the affair at 8-all (13:31) before a
James Stewart (So.-Washington, D.C.) lay-in at 13:00 put the home-Lions up for the remainder of the contest.
Jalen Robinson's layup at 11:37 closed the gap to 15-14, but Lincoln proceeded to mount a 26-9 run to build a stanza-high 18-point surplus (41-23), completed by a
Justin Jackson (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) three-pointer with 49 seconds remaining before intermission.
A Jackson jumper at 14:33 in the second half increased the Lincoln lead to a game-high 23 points (55-32). Georgian Court would knock the deficit to single digits with 1:22 remaining after a 34-11 sliced the home-Lions' lead to 75-66, but the clock eventually ran out of ticks for GCU.
Georgian Court outshot (57.1% to 47.8%) and out-rebounded (35-33) Lincoln, but the home team shot better at the charity stripe (70% to 53.6%) and committed 13 fewer turnovers (20 for GCU).
Lincoln's Jackson led all scorers with 24 points in 22 minutes, which included a nine-for-18 effort from the field. Stewart provided 16 points in 25 minutes while
George Jackson (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) and
Derrick Washington (Sr.-Washington, D.C.) netted 11 apiece and dished nine and five assists, respectively.
Daniel Pendleton (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) dropped in nine points and snared a team-high seven boards.
Robinson was GCU's high-scorer in the defeat, collecting a season-best 22 points, following a perfect eight-for-eight effort from the floor. Ramirez also registered a new personal-high with 19 points, to go along with team-highs of eight assists and seven rebounds. Wejnert and
Keith Hughes each scored 13 points in the ballgame.
The Lions return home to the Wellness Center afternoon for a CACC battle vs. Caldwell College at 1:00 p.m.
