Lions Blank Le Moyne 9-0 in Game One, Earn Split vs. Dolphins in Friday Softball Action

Dara Schroeder
Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University softball squad plated eight first-inning runs to coast to a 9-0, five-inning triumph in Game One vs. Le Moyne College Friday afternoon before succumbing to the Dolphins in the nightcap, 6-3, at the GCU Softball Complex.

The Lions (6-10) had its season-high four-game winning streak snapped with the Game Two defeat. Le Moyne ended the day with a 2-3 record after the split.

GAME ONE

Georgian Court exploded for eight runs on eight hits and two Le Moyne miscues in the bottom of the first inning, headlined by a three-run triple from CF Dara Schroeder, a two-run single off the bat of 1B Emma Erbig, and ribbie knocks from RF Vanessa Flores, 3B Ashlynn Thompson, and 2B Justine Mattia.

After her first career triple, Schroeder established another career-high in the third inning with her fourth RBI of the contest on a sacrifice fly to center.

Deanna Deluise improved to 2-3 on the year as the junior transfer earned her first complete-game shutout as a Lion (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 BB). Le Moyne's Sarah Harrison (Jr.-Canandaigua, N.Y.) suffered the defeat (3.0 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO).

Mattia (2-for-3, R, RBI) and LF Alyssa Paradiso (2-for-2, 2 R, 3B) sported multi-hit efforts in the opener.

GAME TWO

After being kept off the scoreboard in Game One, the Dolphins rebounded immediately in the second contest with two runs in the first inning after a Harrison RBI single and a sacrifice fly. GCU tied the affair at 2-all in the bottom of the second, courtesy of Schroeder's fifth RBI of the afternoon (infield hit) and a Mattia fielder's choice.

Le Moyne responded with a three-spot in the third with all three tallies coming after a double by LF Trish Andrews (Fr.-Camillus, N.Y.). A laser beam homer to right by CF Demetra Kermidas (Sr.-Binghamton, N.Y.) in the top of the sixth provided an insurance run for the Dolphins, increasing the lead to 6-2.

Harrison earned revenge in the circle, this time taming the Lions for the complete-game victory (7.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 6 K). GCU's Illiana Teran fell to 1-2 in the start (2.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB).

SS Briana Molino (2-for-4), DP Adriana Cortez (2-for-2), and Paradiso (2-for-3, R) each enjoyed two hits apiece.
