WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team was defeated by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles dropped the first game 4-2 and fell in the second 1-0.
Game One – Georgian Court 4, Post 2
The Lions (8-12, 2-0 CACC) got on the board first in game one.
Dara Schroeder reached on an error to begin the game. Georgian Court hit back-to-back singles with one out to bring her home and pull ahead 1-0. Four straight singles with two outs in the second inning led to two more Lions' runs as they jumped out in front 3-0.
Sclafani led-off the third inning with a single down the right field line and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. May drove her home three batters later with a single to right field to close the deficit to 3-1.
Georgian Court added another run in the fifth inning.
Emma Erbig doubled centerfield with one out and advanced to second on a groundout.
Senna Francesconi hit an RBI single to centerfield to bring her home and put the Lions ahead 4-1.
Sclafani scored her second run of the game with a home run to centerfield with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning as Post pulled the score to 4-2. Udris doubled and junior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) drew a walk with two outs in the sixth inning, but both were stranded.
GCU's Deanna Deluise (3-4) went the distance for the her second complete-game victory of the season (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1B, 5 K).
Game Two – Georgian Court 1, Post 0
Udris singled to center with two outs in the second inning, but was stranded at first.
Vanessa Flores was hit by a pitch to lead-off the third inning. Rice held her at first as she struck out two batters to end the inning.
Post (6-10, 1-3 CACC) threatened in the bottom of the third. Junior Alysha Pieta (Middletown, Conn.) reached on an error to begin the inning. May hit an infield singled with one out to move Pieta to second base. Junior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) bunted for a single to load the bases with one out. Pieta was thrown out at the plate on a ball hit to third by Udris. DeMartino grounded out to end the inning.
Rice pitched out of a jam in the fourth.
Meghan Sfraga hit an infield single with one out. She advanced to third on a double by Erbig. Both runners were stranded as
Adriana Cortez popped up to first.
The Lions got on the board in the sixth inning.
Briana Molino led-off the frame with a singled. She came home to score the lone run on a hit to left field by Erbig. Erb and Sclafani reached in the bottom of the sixth but were stranded. The Eagles went down in order in the ninth.
Illiana Teran (2-2) earned the complete-game shutout for the Lions ( 7.0 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 1BB, 4 K).
The Lions return home Sunday afternoon for a CACC doubleheader vs. the three-time defending conference champion Dominican College Lady Chargers. The twin-bill is a make-up date for last Sunday's postponement. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
