Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University Track & Field squad fell to Rowan University, 122.50 to 73.50, in the schools' annual dual meet Wednesday afternoon at the GCU Track & Field complex. The final score was secondary to the Lions, however, as the team established five new school records and four national qualifiers on the day.
Tiffany Okieme launched an overall personal-best 15.67m toss in the Shot Put to etch a spot in the GCU record book and reserve a place for the freshman phenom on the national qualifier list. Senior Alyssa Hudgins also achieved a personal-best with a national-qualifying heave of 14.21 in the same event while also making the national mark with a Hammer Throw of 53.59m.
Laura Gemignani launched a national qualifier in the Javelin with a record-breaking throw of 41.03m.
Other new highwater marks for the program include: Octivia Booker's Triple Jump of 10.85m; a time of 12:02.0 for Megan Kelly in the 3000m Steeplechase and a 48.64 finish by the quartet of Booker, Moriah Jennings, Susan Lora and Chanel Rogers in the 4 X 100m Relay.
"This meet with Rowan University has proven to be very beneficial for both programs," said Head Coach Michael Murawski. "Over the past three years, we have shown this meet produces great results for both teams. As much as we preach winning to our programs, the team results are secondary to overall performances at this meet. We had four national qualifying performances and/or improvements to previous qualifying marks. We also broke five school records today; it doesn't get much better than that in a meet that lasts just three hours. We are truly progressing each week and that is exciting to see as we enter our championship portion of the season next weekend."
Georgian Court will be host the CTC Outdoor Championships next week, April 19 and 20.
