Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University tennis squad defeated East Stroudsburg University, 6-3, Monday afternoon at GCU's Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center marking the first time the Lions have posted back-to-back victories since September 2010.
GCU improves to 5-12 with the win while the Warriors fall to 5-11 on the year.
The match opened up with East Stroudsburg taking two of the three doubles contests. The GCU tandem of
Melissa Dennis and Maria Leal defeated ESU's
Allison Bean (So.-Langhorne, Pa.) and
Rabecca Lausch (Sr.-Carlisle, Pa.) in the #1 slot, 8-3, for the Lions' lone doubles trumph.
Georgian Court bounced back in full force in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Leal (#1) dropped Lausch (6-2, 6-3) while senior
Victoria Gaffney took down Bean, 7-5, 6-3, in the #2 match. Dennis outlasted ESU's
Annie Vega (Jr.-Hawley, Pa.), 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in the #3 singles.
Meredith Hoffman improved to 3-0 this spring in singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win over
Amina Dickson (Fr.-Maplewood, N.J.) in the #4 position while
Maria Antimisiaris took care of
Sarah DiGregory (Fr.-Aston, Pa.), 6-3, 6-3, in the #6 spot.
The Lions look to make it three in a row Wednesday afternoon when they host Ramapo College at 4:00 p.m. in what will be GCU's spring season finale.
