Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University tennis squad completed the spring portion of its 2012-13 schedule Wednesday afternoon as the Lions lost to Ramapo College in a 5-4 thriller at GCU's Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center.
GCU registered a 2-2 mark in spring action (5-13 overall) while Ramapo improves to 12-5 on the year.
The Lions opened the contest with victories in two of the three doubles matches. The GCU tandem of
Melissa Dennis and Maria Leal dropped Ramapo's Katrina Biss (Fr.-Pompton Lakes, N.J.) and Hayley Downing (Sr.-Cliffside Park, N.J.), 8-3, in the #1 match.
Maria Antimisiaris and
Samantha Hanson teamed up in the #2 position with an 8-0 blanking of Karina Antequera (Fr.-Guttenberg, N.J.) and Ivy Schuckman (Madison, N.J.).
Leal evened her record at 8-8 with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 triumph over Downing in #1 singles while Dennis won her fourth straight singles effort (9-8 overall) with a 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-7) marathon victory in the #3 position.
