Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's tennis squad is still searching for its first victory of the season as the Lions dropped an 8-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match to visiting Philadelphia University Saturday afternoon in the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center.
Georgian Court (0-3, 0-2 CACC) trailed 2-1 heading into singles play after the Lions' tandum of
Meredith Hoffman and
Heather Jensen earned GCU's first doubles win of the year, defeating Philadelphia's
Sylvia Bennicelli (Jr.-Lansdale, Pa.) and
Magill Kurts (Jr.-Burlington, N.J.), 8-4, in the #3 position.
The Lady Rams (3-2, 1-1 CACC) swept all six singles matches. However,
Melissa Dennis did not make it easy on the vistiors as she battled
Olivia Amato (Jr.-Hanford, Conn.) in the #4 slot. Dennis took the first set, 6-2, with Amato answering, 6-3 in the following frame. The two competitors would settle the affair in a tiebreaker with Amato outlasting Dennis, 12-10.
The Lions return to action Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. conference home match vs. Concordia College.
