Newark, Del.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad traveled to Wilmington University Tuesday evening, falling to the conference-foe Wildcats, 102-83, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
The defeat drops the Lions overall mark to 2-13 (0-8 CACC) while the Wildcats improve to 7-10 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
Georgian Court jumped out to an early 9-3 lead after a
Jordan Wejnert lay-up at 17:07. Wilmington tied the contest at 9-all at 16:01 in a game that would be tied on two more occasions before the Wildcats took the lead for good after a
Ta'Vaune Griffin (So.-Chester, Pa.) layup made the score 17-15 with 13:55 to go.
GCU came to within one point (30-29) after a
Jalen Robinson free throw at 5:08, but the Wildcats would close the half on a 15-8 spurt to go into intermission up 45-37.
The Lions' season-long, second-half woes continued in this contest as Wilmington put the game away early in the second stanza. The Wildcats' lead never slipped below double-digits and crested at a game-high 32 points on three seperate occasions.
Six Wildcats eclipsed double-digits in the scoring column, led by
Shai Henry's (So.-Cape May Court House, N.J.) 16 points. Wilmington also poured in a team-record 17 three-pointers in the effort.
Wejnert paced Georgian Court with his game-high 26 points. Robinson followed with 17 points of his own while
Keith Hughes dropped in 13 and gathered a game-best eight boards.
Georgian Court next travels to Holy Family University Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. CACC showdown.
