Women's Soccer Escapes Post University with 1-1 Tie After Late-Minute Tally

Jamie Smith
Waterbury, Conn.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad escaped the Nutmeg State with a critical 1-1 tie Saturday afteroon at Post University as the Lions improve to 8-4-2 (6-3-1 CACC) and currently sit in fourth place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings with 19 points.

The contest remained scoreless until the 41st minute when Post freshman Angela Ciaramella (Hamden, Conn.) took a pass from senior Renel Dennis (Queens N.Y.) and deposited the ball in the net, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead going into the break

It looked as though the Eagles would escape with the victory, but Georgian Court's Jamie Smith (Sr.-Welland, Ontario) put a shot past the Post keeper in the 84th minute off of a corner from Laura Nelson (So.-Barnegat, N.J.), to tie the score at 1-1.

The teams would go scoreless the rest of the half before playing two overtimes. Neither team took a shot in overtime. The Eagles (8-4-1, 7-2-1 CACC) owned a 15-7 shot advantage, but the Lions collected six more corner kicks (7-1), including the game-winner.

GCU returns home to play Queens College in a non-conference contest this Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
