GCU Tennis Competitive in CACC Defeat at Holy Family

Philadelphia, Pa.- In a match that was not conducive to its final score, the Georgian Court University tennis squad fell at Holy Family University, 8-1 Thursday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. The contest was originally scheduled for this past Saturday, September 27.

The Lions have now lost seven straight after commencing the campaign with a victory (1-7, 0-5 CACC) while the host-Tigers improve to 4-5 (2-3 CACC),

 Holy Family opened the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles contests. The Tigers' #1 tandem of Emerald Adams (So.-White Plains, N.Y.) and Anastasiya Kolodiy (So.-Lviv, Ukraine) bested GCU seniors Mafi Leal (Guaynabo, P.R.) and Meredith Hoffman (Spring Lake, N.J.), 8-2.  Christina Little (So.-Philadelphia, Pa.) and Alina Nersesyan (Jr.-Yaroslavi, Russia) topped Kayanna Chandler (So.-Jackson, N.J.) and Annmarie Wodell (Sr.-Pt. Pleasant, N.J.), 8-1, in the #2 match while Casey Borish (Sr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) and Jacqueline Clyne (Jr.-West Islip, N.Y.) held off newcomer Deanna Daluise (Sr.-Manalapan, N.J.) and Tahira Matthews (Sr.-Bloomfield, N.J.), 8-1, at #3.

In #1 singles play,Kolodiy topped Leal by a score of 6-2, 7-5, followed by Adams defeating Chandler (6-0, 6-1) at #2. Nersesyan needed three sets to take Wodell (6-4, 1-6, 10-8) in the fifth spot. Borish defeated Daluise (6-0, 6-0) before Clyne shut out Matthews (8-0) at #6 to end the match.

GCU's lone point came at #4 singles as Hoffman secured a straight-sets victory (6-4, 6-3) over Little. 


The Lions return home to host Caldwell University Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center. The CACC match was originally postponed due to rain on Wednesday.
