Lions Look "Fresh" in 4-1 Non-Conference Home Win Vs. Lincoln University

Lizzy Kroon
Lakewood, N.J.- The freshman duo of Lizzy Kroon (Bayville, N.J.) and Lauren Mendez (Toms River, N.J.) combined for three goals and an assist Tuesday afternoon as the Georgian Court University women's soccer squad strutted to a 4-1 non-conference victory over visiting Lincoln University (PA) on Investors Savings Bank Field.

Kroon, who now leads the GCU roster with seven goals on the year, netted a pair within 49 seconds of each other to give the home team an early 2-0 advantage in the first half. Morgan Peacock (So.-Edison, N.J.) collected her CACC-leading fifth assist on the first tally, feeding Kroon at midfield as the speedster eventually scored on the breakaway at 16:56. The second goal occurred at 17:45 as Kroon blasted home an initial save off Lincoln's goalkeeper, Christian Harris (So.-Rochester, N.Y.).

Mendez made her appearance off the Georgian Court felt at 71:58 when she one-timed a Carly LoVerde (Sr.-Bayville, N.J.) cross for her first collegiate goal, providing the Lions with a 3-0 advantage. The frosh was not finished as she dished her first assist that Tuere Chisolm-Thomas (So.-South Orange, N.J.) promptly deposited for her second score of the season.

Down 4-0, Lincoln's Harris, put the visiting version of the Lions on the board at 87:53, her third of the year. The sophomore, who played 67:42 and made 13 saves in the Lincoln net, suffered the defeat. Tianna Worden (Jr.-Bayville, N.J.) earned her first win of the year for GCU, collecting five saves in the complete-game effort.

GCU (6-3-1) outshot Lincoln, 24-8, and registered a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Lincoln University falls to 4-5-1 on the year.

The Lions next take the field Saturday afternoon with a 12:00 p.m. CACC home contest vs. the Lady Chargers of Dominican College.
