Nyack, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad suffered a disheartening 75-74 defeat at Nyack College Saturday afternoon as the Lions continue to seek the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph in program history.
GCU sees its record tumble to 2-18 on the season (0-13 CACC) while the Warriors improve to 8-12 overall (6-7 CACC) in the North Division.
The Lions owned the lead for the first 3:19 of the contest, which included two four-point advantages over that period. Nyack's
Nick Moore (Jr.-Sicklerville, N.J.) rolled in a lay-up with 16:41 on the clock to provide the home team with a 9-8 lead, a lead the Warriors would own for the remainder of the period.
Nyack increased its advantage to a first-half high of ten points on four seperate occasions with the last occuring with 6:33 to go before intermission when a pair of
Chris Hampton (Jr.-Queens, N.Y.) free throws put the Warriors up 29-19. GCU rallied with a 14-6 run to close the stanza within a basket at 35-33.

ordan Wejnert lay-in 4:43 into the second session broke a 40-all tie and regained a lead for the Lions, 42-40. A Wejnert free throw with 10:34 left concluded a 13-8 spurt that increased GCU's surplus to 55-48. The Warriors immediately answered with a 12-4 jab to regain the advantage, 60-59, with 6:48 remaining on the clock.
After Nyack increased its lead to 69-64 with 4:12 to go, GCU rallied to tie the contest on twice. A
Keith Hughes three-pointer knotted the score at 69-all with 3:28 left and two clutch free throws from Hughes tied the affair again, this time at 73-73 with 92 ticks remaining. A lay-up by Nyack's
Isaiah Roberts (Sr.-Pennsauken, N.J.) with 1:19 on the clock provided the basket the Warriors needed to escape with the narrow victory.
The Lions dazzled from the floor, shooting an impressive 27-for-51 (52.9%) while out-rebounding Nyack, 30-27.
Hampton led the Warriors' offensive charge with a team-best 20 points and three steals. Moore followed with his 18 points and team-high seven rebounds.Roberts countered with 18 points and three assists.
Wejnert provided his tenth effort of 20 or more points for Georgian Court with a game-high 26 points, along with a team-best seven boards and three steals. Hughes added 16 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists.
Trey Jones contributed eight points and a game-high six assists.
The Lions take the week off and return to the hardwood next Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. CACC home game vs. Felician College.
