Hughes' 34 Points Not Enough as Lions Suffer 94-87 Setback to Felician College

Lakewood, N.J.- Georgian Court University's Keith Hughes poured in a program season-best 34 points (including five three-pointers), but that would not be enough to carry the Lions to victory as GCU dropped a 94-87 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision to Felician College Saturday afternoon in the Wellness Center Arena.

GCU now owns a record of 2-19 (0-14 CACC) on the year while the Golden Falcons rise to 5-16 (3-11 CACC).

Felician jumped out to a 10-4 lead after a pair of Jeyvi Miavivululu (Jr.-Paterson, N.J.) free throws 4:20 into the game.Georgian Court surged back with a furious 26-10 run that had the Lions up by score of 30-20 with 5:53 remaining in the first half. The Golden Falcons didn't blink an eye and countered with a 10-0 blanking of the home team that knotted the game at 30-all.

A J.R. Pringley (Jr.-Elizabeth, N.J.) lay-up with 2:35 left gave the Golden Falcons a 36-32 advantage. The Lions responded by outscoring Felician, 9-1, with the balance of time remaining highlighted by a Jordan Wejnert lay-in at the buzzer to put the home team ahead, 41-37, going into intermission.

The Lions owned a portion of the lead for the first 6:26 of the second stanza, until an Owen Barnes (Jr.-Teaneck, N.J.) three-pointer put Felician up, 59-57, with 13:34 remaining.The score would go on to be knotted four additional times before the Golden Falcons would secure the lead for good after a Pringley lay-up made he score 78-76 Felician with with 4:33 to go.

The visitors' advantage would grow to a game-high 11 points on three seperate occasions over the final 90 seconds, courtesy of numerous visits to the foul line.

Pringley topped the Felician roster with 27 points and snagged 10 rebounds to complete the double-double performance. Miavivululu joined his teammate in the double-double club with 23 points and a game-high 15 boards. Anthony Obery (Sr.-Roselle, N.J.) drained 13 points and distributed eight assists. Barnes sank 11 points for the Golden Falcons while Jamal Reid (So.-Newark, N.J.) dished a game-high nine assists.

Hughes was the star of the GCU lineup, shooting 10-of-21 from the floor while hitting on 9-of-13 free throw attempts. Wejnert poured in 25 points of his own, including 8-of-9 from the charity stripe, while providing a team-best nine boards and five assists. Lindon Lulgjuraj netted 10 points, hitting on three three-pointers, while Trey Jones scored nine points and collected four assists.

The Lions next play Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. when they host Holy Family University in the Wellness Center.
