Bloomfield, N.J.- The Georgian Court University softball squad ended its season-high five-game slide with a 6-2 nightcap victory Saturday afternoon at Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Lions fell to the Lady Deacons in the opener, 4-2, courtesy of a gut-wrenching, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.
GAME ONEAfter a scoreless initial frame, Bloomfield (20-16, 13-11 CACC) commenced the scoring in home half of the second after a sacrifice fly from CF
Veronica Cobos (Jr.-Torrance, Calif.). GCU's
Dara Schroeder knotted the affair at 1-1 in the top of the fifth when she came on in to score on the back end of a double steal.
The score would remain tied into extra innings with Georgian Court snapping the stalemate in the top of the ninth after 1B
Emma Erbig plated the go-ahead tally, courtesy of a Bloomfield miscue. Any dreams of stealing the victory evaporated very quickly for the Lions as freshman pitcher
Kirsten Wilson (Beaver Falls. Pa.) launched a one-out, three-run dinger to bring the game to a sudden end.
Wilson (6-8) also went the distance in the circle to also earn the victory for The Lady Deacons, permitting two runs ( 1 ER) on five hits and three walks (7 K) in 9.0 IP.
Tina Morgan (3-4) suffered the devastating defeat, yielding four runs (3 ER) on eight hits (3 K) over 8.1 innings of work.
RF
Alyssa Paradiso (2-for-4) was responsible for a pair of the Lions' five hits.
GAME TWO
GCU (20-17, 14-6) quickly put the game one demise behind them as the Lions plated two runs in the first, three in the third, and an insurance tally in the fourth as the visitors coasted to the 6-2 triumph.
Abby Merryman improved to 8-6 for the Lions (3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K) while Bloomfield's
Kaila Dugger (Sr.-Mesa, Ariz.) was saddled with the setback (3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, K).
SS
