Softball Secures Third Straight Conference Sweep ... Drubs Dominican, 4-1 & 6-1

Orangeburg, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University softball squad increased its winning streak to seven straight and secured its third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep by taking a pair at Dominican College Saturday afternoon, 4-1 and 6-1. The Lions last took a set from the Chargers in 2011.

With the victories, GCU improves to 17-12 (11-1 CACC) while Dominican drops to 6-14 (4-4 CACC).

GAME ONE

The Chargers drew first blood in the opener, plating a run in the home half of the third after a lead-off home run to centerfield off the bat of SS Lisa Bouffard (Fr.-Wallkill, N.Y.). Georgian Court immediately responded with a three-spot in the top of the fourth, courtesy of 2B Justine Mattia's third long ball of the season. The Lions added an insurance tally in the sixth after an RBI single through the middle by DH Bryana Smith.

Freshman southpaw Abby Merryman improved to 6-3 in the circle for GCU, yielding the lone run on five hits and three walks (1 K) in the complete-game effort. Kimberly Ragazzo (So.-Lawrenceville, N.J.) suffered the defeat for the Chargers, allowing four runs on 12 hits (1 K) over seven innings.

1B Emma Erbig led the Lions' lineup with three hits and two runs scored. Smith (2-for-3) and RF Alyssa Paradiso (2-for-4) also provided multiple hits.

GAME TWO

For the second straight contest, the Chargers snared a 1-0 advantage, this time by scoring on a GCU wild pitch in the first inning. The Lions waited to the fourth inning to fire their first shot, a Mattia ribbie single to right, to tie the ballgame at 1-1. Georgian Court took away the lead with a two-run fifth inning and added three more in the sixth, courtesy of a two-run shot to left by Erbig and a run-scoring single from LF Taylor Boltersdorf.

Senior Deanna Daluise (8-6) earned the victory, permitting just one run on four hits and four bases-on-balls (1 K) in the complete-game effort. Emily Larsen (Fr.-Midlothian, Ill.) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs (5 ER) on seven hits and two walks (1 K) in 5.1 IP.

Boltersdorf went 3-for-3 at the plate for GCU while Erbig garnered a 2-for-3 effort.
