Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's tennis squad opened its spring schedule Saturday afternoon with a crisp 7-2 victory over visiting Pratt Institute in the GCU's Ellen Mullane Gallagher Tennis Center. The Lions honored teammate
Melissa Dennis prior to the match with a special "Senior Day" celebration.
Dennis and
Maria Leal opened doubles play with an 8-4 triumph in the #1 slot while the tandem of
Meredith Hoffman and newcomer
Mikaela Chua earned an 8-1 win in the #2 position.
Leal proceeded to win the #1 singles match, defeating Pratt's
Agata Jakubowska (Fr.-Dallas, Tx.) in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Annmarie Wodell enjoyed a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the #2 spot as did Chua in the #4 position (6-4, 6-4). Dennis won her #3 singles match vs.
Sarah Conant (Jr.-Lowell, Ma.) in three sets (7-6, 1-6, 10-3 tiebreaker). Hoffman also needed three sets in the #4 match, defeating
Whitney Mills (Sr.-Rocky River, Ohio) 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
