Lakewood, N.J.- Solo home runs by
Kayla Kresley (Fr.-Alburtis, Pa.) and
Stephanie DeMartino (Sr.-Staten Island, N.Y.) provided the only runs for #3 Post University, but proved to be enough as the Eagles squeaked past #2 Georgian Court University, 2-1, Friday afternoon in the second round of the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball tournament.
Post (24-20) moves on in the winner bracket and will take on either #1 Caldwell College or #5 Wilmington University at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. GCU (28-21) now enters the loser bracket and will try to stay alive when they hook up with #4 Holy Family University Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
After a scoreless first, Kresley smoked a one-out long ball to left-center to put the Eagles up, 1-0, in the top of the second. Georgian Court immediately countered in the bottom of the frame when 3B
Taylor McDonough led off with a single through the left side and came all the way around to score on a RBI double to the left-center gap by 1B
Emma Erbig.The score would remain knotted at 1-1 until DeMartino led off the top of the six with a mighty blast over the fence in right-center, clinching the victory for the Eagles.
Post's
Samantha Esque (So.-Springfield, Pa.) earned the victory, yielding one run on four hits a walk (2 K) in the complete-game effort.
Tina Morgan (7-6) was tagged with the defeat, allowing two runs (2 ER) on six hits and a walk (6 K) over six innings of work.
