Garden City, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University softball squad, making its first appearance in the NCAA East Regionals since 2010, fell to fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member, Caldwell College, by a 6-0 score in the opening game for both Friday afternoon at Adelphi University.

After a scoreless top of the first, the No. 2 seed Cougars compiled a two-out rally to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the frame. DP Brielle Reign (So.-Runnemeade, N.J.) reached on a GCU fielding error and was immediately plated on a double to left-center off the bat of C Alyssa Calderon (Jr.-Fontana, Calif.).

A solo home run over the right-center field wall by 2B Lauren Frye (Fr.-Jupiter, Fla.) in the "home" half of the second increased the surplus to 2-0. The CACC regular season champs (42-7) broke it open with a four-spot in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy of run-scoring single through the middle by CF Caitlin McCready (So.-Jupiter, Fla.), a two-run base hit by Reign, and another run-inducing single to left by Calderon.

Caldwell ace Amber Padilla (So.-Chino, Calif.) permitted six runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out five in the victory. Abby Merryman (Fr.-Sewell, N.J.) fell to 12-8 for the Lions, yielding six runs (5 ER) on nine hit and walk in 3.1 innings pitched.

Georgian Court CF Dara Schroeder (Jr.-Bordentown, N.J.) tallied two of the Lions' hits with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate.

GCU (31-23) now takes on No. 3 seed Adelphi University Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. as the Panthers fell to No. 4 Queens College, 5-0, in Friday's opener. The Knights no-hit Adelphi in the victory.
