Lions Open CACC Play with 2-0 Blanking of Chestnut Hill College

Rosa Franze
Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer team remained perfect on the young campaign after breezing to a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College Wednesday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.

With the win, the Lions improved to 2-0 (1-0 CACC) while the Griffins dip to 0-2 (0-1 CACC) having been blanked in their first two outings of the year.

The contest remained scoreless until the 40th minute (39:57) when Tuere Chisholm-Thomas (R-So.-South Orange, N.J.) pierced the Chestnut Hill defense and planted a Jessica Constantine (So.-Lakehurst, N.J.) feed in the upper left of the net to provide the Lions with a 1-0 advantage.

A little over three minutes into the second session (48:13), freshman Rosa Franze (Ocean, N.J.) netted her first collegiate tally following a scramble in front of the Chestnut Hill net caused by a GCU corner kick off the foot of Tori Capestro (Jr.-Brick, N.J.).

Goalkeeper Casey O'Connor (Jr.-Toms River, N.J.), the reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week, earned her first shutout of the season after collecting a lone save in 90:00 of work. Samantha Pauls (Sr.-South Plainfield, N.J.) was saddled with the loss for the Griffins, permitting both goals while registering 11 saves in the complete-game.

The Lions outshot Chestnut Hill by the wide margin of 23-4 and owned a 5-1 advantage when it came to corner kicks.

Georgian Court stays in conference for its next outing, an 11:00 a.m. road contest at Bloomfield College this Saturday morning.
