Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University women's tennis team made its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road trip of the 2014 season Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped a 9-0 decision to host-Philadelphia University in the Legacy Tennis Center
The Lady Rams (5-0, 2-0 CACC) opened the session by sweeping all three doubles matches. Philadelphia's #1 tandem of
Olivia Amato (Sr.-Hartford, Conn.) and
Julia Arrruda (Jr.-Valinhos, Brazil) narrowly defeated Georgian Court seniors
Mafi Leal (Guaynabo, P.R.) and
Meredith Hoffman (Spring Lake, N.J.) by a score of 9-8 (7-3).
Emily Chung (So-Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and
Anna Kudriavtceva (Fr.-Yekaterinburg, Russia) topped
Kayanna Chandler (So.-Jackson, N.J.) and
Annmarie Wodell (Sr.-Pt. Pleasant, N.J.), 8-2, in the second slot.
Jala Hamada (Jr.-Giza, Egypt) and
Anna Slomowitz (So.-Glen Mills, Pa.) took down GCU's
Mikalea Chua (Sr.-Toms River, N.J.) and
Brittany McLaughlin (Sr.-Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) in the #3 match, by an 8-1 decision.
In #1 singles play, Arruda blanked Leal by an 8-0 score, followed by Kudriavtceva clipping Chandler 6-1, 6-2 at #2. Chung dismissed Wodell in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) in the third spot, followed by Hamada claiming victory over Hoffman (8-0) in the #4 contest. Amato defeated Chua (8-1) to win at #5 before Slomowitz shut out McLaughlin (6-0, 6-0) at #6 to end the match.
The Lions (1-3, 0-2 CACC) return to the court Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Concordia College for another CACC contest. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
