Nationally-Ranked Concordia Clips Lions, 9-0, in CACC Tennis

Bronxville, N.Y.- Concordia College, ranked #22 in the nation, shut out visiting Georgian Court University, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's tennis action.

The Clippers (1-0, 1-0 CACC) opened its season by sweeping all three doubles matches. Concordia's #1 tandem of Costanza Mecchi (So.-Rome, Italy) and Romana Tabak (Sr.-Bratislava, Slovakia) held off Georgian Court seniors Mafi Leal (Guaynabo, P.R.) and Meredith Hoffman (Spring Lake, N.J.) by a score of 8-2.  Valeriia Cheban (So-Odessa, Ukraine) and Alla Kravchuk (Sr.-Tashkent, Uzbekistan) topped Kayanna Chandler (So.-Jackson, N.J.) and Annmarie Wodell (Sr.-Pt. Pleasant, N.J.), 8-3, in the second slot. Stefanie Canals-Baker (So.-Pollensa, Islas Baleares, Spain )and Linda Eliasson (Sr.-Gothenburg, Sweden) took down GCU's Mikalea Chua (Sr.-Toms River, N.J.) and Brittany McLaughlin (Sr.-Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) in the #3 match, by an 8-0 decision.

In #1 singles play, Mecchi bested Leal by a score of 6-2, 6-1, followed by Tabak's blanking of Chandler (6-0, 6-0) at #2. Eliasson dismissed Wodell in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) in the third spot, followed by Kravchuk claiming victory over Hoffman (6-0, 6-0) in the #4 contest. Cheban defeated Chua (6-1, 6-0) to win at #5 before Canals-Baker shut out McLaughlin (6-0, 6-0) at #6 to end the match. 

The Lions (1-4, 0-3 CACC) next travel to Shippensburg University Sunday afternoon for a make-up contest at 1:00 p.m. The match was originally postponed by rain on September 6.
