Kroon, Peacock Each Score a Pair as Women's Soccer Cruises to 4-1 Win Over New Haven in 2014 Debut

Lizzy Kroon
Lakewood, N.J.- Lizzy Kroon (Fr.-Bayville, N.J.) tallied two goals and an assist in her collegiate debut while teammate Morgan Peacock (So.-Edison, N.J.) matched that effort as the Georgian Court University women's soccer squad coasted to a 4-1 non-conference victory over the University of New Haven in Saturday's 2014 opener for the Lions.

The featured duo teamed up for GCU's first score of the afternoon when Kroon darted with and netted a Peacock feed to put the home team up, 1-0, at 19:26. A little over four minutes later (23:49), Peacock headed home a perfectly placed corner kick by Tori Capestro (Jr.-Brick, N.J.) to put Georgian Court ahead by two.

Just 1:32 into the second half (46:32), Kroon returned the first-half favor Peacock provided earlier and served a splendid pass that the soaring sophomore headed in for her second score of the afternoon. The lead increased to 4-0 at 70:14 when Kroon corralled a Rosa Franze (Fr.-Ocean, N.J.) pass and sprinted to her second goal of the day.

The Chargers (1-1) broke up the shutout effort when Amber Simms (Sr.-Southport, UK) one-timed a Marisa Garcia (Jr.-Babylon, N.Y.) pass at 72:40 for her first goal of the young campaign.

UNH outshot the Lions, 17-14, while both squads attempted five corner kicks apiece.

Georgian Court goalkeeper Casey O'Connor (Jr.-Toms River, N.J.) earned her first victory of the year in the Lions' net, collecting eight saves in the complete-game effort. New Haven's Natasha Purchla (Jr.-Oakdale, N.Y) suffered the defeat, permitting three goals in 53:03 of action. She also tallied two saves.

GCU (1-0) returns to the pitch Wednesday afternoon when they host CACC-rival Chestnut Hill College at 3:30 p.m.
