Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad, after having its 11-game unbeaten streak snapped Monday, returned to its winning ways Saturday afternoon by making easy work of Concordia College, 5-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
With the triumph, the Lions remain perfect vs. CACC foes at 8-0 while improving 11-2-1 overall. Concordia drifts to 1-10 on the year (1-9 CACC).
Morgan LaDuca led the GCU charge, netting her first as a Lion when she settled a
Tori Capestro pass off a corner kick set piece and uncorked a missle into the upper right portion of the Concordia net just 6:53 into the contest.
Rachel Marino followed less than five minutes later (11:19) when the senior drained her sixth of the season, courtesy of a
Laura Nelson helper.
Amanda Astudillo closed out Georgian Court's first-half onslaught when the sophomore cranked a shot from 30 yards out that tipped off the Concordia keeper's mitts and continued into the net, making the score 3-0 Lions.
Katie Vecchio provided service with a smile for GCU in the second stanza as the senior assisted on goals by
Tayler Bramley (70:01) and
Megan Melchionne (84:35).
The Lions outshot the Clippers on the day, 20-7, and have now outscored their overall opponents by an astounding 50-9 margin on the year.
Casey O'Connor increases her personal record to 11-2-1 in the GCU net, collecting six saves in the victory. The senior keeper now owns eight shutouts on the year, while leading the conference with an .859 save percentage and 0.63 goals-against average.
GCU now prepares for Philadelphia University, whom they travel to play this Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
