North Easton, Mass.- Playing its second game in as many nights to commence the 2015-16 campaign, the Georgian Court University men's basketball squad battled hard before eventually succumbing to Stonehill College (Northeast-10) by a score of 90-82.
The Skyhawks (2-0) never trailed in the affair, building a game-high, 25-point advantage (43-18) with 1:46 remaining in the first half. The Lions (0-2) demonstrated resiliency in the second frame as GCU, owners of a 20-point halfitme deficit, cut the Stonehill lead to just seven points after a
J.D. Rodriguez three-pointer with 10:05 left capped a 29-16 run by the visitors.Â
Georgian Court would outscore its opponent, 56-44, in the second stanza, but to no avail.
Ryan Logan (Jr.-Fredrickstown, Ohio) topped all players with his 28 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the floor in the Stonehill victory.
Carter Smith (Sr.-Columbus, Ohio) followed with 19 points, including a game-high five three pointers.
Jimmy Walsh (Jr.-Manasquan, N.J.) and
Adam Bramanti (Sr.-Middleton, Mass.) contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Skyhawks while
Pierce Cumpstone (Sr.-Bainbridge Township, Ohio) snared a game-best nine boards.
As for the Lions,
Keith Hughes returned to form with a team-best 22 points (10-for-17) and seven rebounds in 32 minutes off the GCU bench.
Juwuan Carter tallied his second straight 20-point effort to start the year, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor. Rodriguez finished the evening with 15 points over 30 minutes of action.
GCU now returns home to prepare for its 2015-16 home opener as the Lions kick off the CACC portion of its schedule with an 8:00 p.m. showdown vs. Holy Family University Wednesday evening in the Wellness Center.
