Lakewood, N.J.- The tandem of
Morgan Peacock and
Tori Capestro teamed up three times on scoring efforts and
Lizzy Kroon popped in her conference-leading 18th tally as the #1 seed Georgian Court University Lions defeated #8 Goldey-Beacom College, 4-1, in Tuesday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
GCU (15-2-2) will next take on #5 Caldwell University (10-8-1) Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. on Post University's Lamoy Field in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Cougars upset #4 Wilmington University, 2-1, on the road to earn the semifinal appearance.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead at 22:46 when Peacock headed in a perfectly-placed corner kick from Capestro for her third of the season. It was a Capestro cross that connected with Peacock's cranium at 30:34, providing GCU with a 2-0 advantage going into intermission.
Goldey-Beacom's leading scorer,
Amy Runciman (So.-Luton, England), cut the score to 2-1 just 3:58 (48:58) into the second stanza when the sophomore one-timed a
Kelsey Vick (So.-Clarksboro, N.J.) for her 10th of the year. Kroon countered when she belted a loose ball in front of the Lightning (8-10) net to increase the lead to 3-1 (54:06).
Capestro closed the contest with a corner kick clout, once again finding the 5'11" Peacock for her third goal of the header variety on the afternoon (89:04).
Casey O'Connor improved to 15-2-2 in the Georgian Court net as the senior secured four saves. Counterpart
Cindell Aguirre (Jr.-El Paso, Texas) grabbed 10 saves in the effort.
The Lions outshot Goldey-Beacom, 22-7, and attempted three more corner kicks than their foe, 6-3.
