Rutherford, N.J.- Exactly one week after securing its first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph, the Georgian Court University men's basketball squad earned its first CACC- and-true road win Saturday afternoon with an 85-73 victory over host-Felician College.
The Lions (5-16, 2-12 CACC) defeated Clarion University back on November 15 away from the GCU Wellness Center, but that game was a neutral-site affair played as part of the Shippensburg University Wolf's Bus Lines, Inc. Classic.
In its most dominant performance of the year, GCU, aside from the initial basket of the contest, owned a share of the lead the entire way. Georgian Court upped its lead to a first-half high of 18-2 at the 12:45 mark, concluding an 18-0 run for the Lions. After coming out of intermission with a 46-39 lead, GCU coasted through the second stanza, leading by as many as 13 points, 70-57, with 8:41 remaining in regulation.
Michael Pierre (Melrose, N.Y.) served as the Lions' leading scorer on the day with his 19 points off the GCU bench.
Keith Hughes (So.-Woodbridge, N.J.) and
Jordan Wejnert (Sr.-Pt.Pleasant, N.J.) followed with 18 apiece while Wejnert snagged a team-best nine boards.
J.R. Pringley (Sr.-Elizabeth, N.J.) shined for Felician with a double-double effort consisting of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Teammate
Tim Massado (So.-Wilmington, Del.) added 17 points while
Marko Kozul (Fr.-Astoria, N.Y.) poured in 11.
The Lions stay on the road and next travel to Holy Family University for an 8:00 p.m. CACC ballgame Tuesday night.
