Glassboro, N.J.- Hosted by Rowan University, the Georgian Court University men's track and field squad defeated Lehman College, 72.00-42.00, in a dual meet while improving on three school records in the victory.
A week after Thomas Natoli established a new mark in the 1,500 meters,
Jhonathan Matamoros put his thumb print on the event by winning with a new team-best of 4:13.65.Â
Two records fell in the field events as
Joseph Kaas launched a program-high in the shot put with a heave of 14.99 meters, while breaking his own mark in the discus with a winning throw of 43.13 meters.
Michael Rogers (50.56) took first place in the 400 meter dash while the Lions finished one-two-three in the 800 meter run (
Jhonathan Matamoros-1:59.54;
Patrick Parr-2:06.38;
Michael Pontrelli-2:07.65).
Parr finished second behind Matamoros in the 1,500 (4;19.45) while GCU swept the 400 meter hurdles with Nicholas Claudeo (56.73) and
Phillip Zimmerman (59.55) taking the top-two spots.
In the field,
Jordan Fagan was victorious in the high jump with a leap of 1.90 meters while
Michael Brazzel won the long jump with an effort of 5.75 meters.Â
Peter Collins earned the win in the hammer throw with a heave of 52.02 meters, followed by Kaas (37.24m) and Alaa Al-Shrouf (36.76m). Collins (13.91m) and Al-Shrouf (13.51m) took second and third, respectively in the shot put while Al-Shrouf also placed second in the discus (37.91m).
The Lions return to action next week when they compete in the CTC Outdoor Championships, here at Rowan University.
