Schroeder Eclipses Georgian Court Career Hit Mark in Twin-Bill at Post University

Waterbury, Conn.- Dara Schroeder, already the all-time stolen base leader in the annals of Georgian Court University softball, added another crown to her collection Saturday afternoon as the senior speedster eclipsed the career hits record, surpassing the mark of 281 knocks, once held by Rachel Ruch ('09-'12).

Coming into the day's doubleheader at Post University needing one hit to tie Ruch, Schroeder did just that with a trademark bunt-single to the pitcher in Game One vs. the Eagles. The record became her's alone in the top of the first inning of the night-cap as the lefty slapped a single to left field for #282.

The Lions ended up losing both contests to Post, 4-1 and 7-6, in a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match-up. GCU falls to 9-5 in conference play (10-22 overall) while the Eagles improve to 9-3 in the CACC (15-11 overall).

GAME ONE

After a scoreless initial frame, the Lions struck first with a run in the top of the second, courtesy of Kelly Hardiman's first home run of the season. The Eagles quickly countered in the bottom of the inning with two runs on a GCU blunder and a ribbie fielder's choice.

Post sealed the win with two more tallies in the home half of the sixth after a run-scoring double from 3B Emily Schaffer (Fr.-Hazlet, N.J.) and another RBI fielder's choice.

The Lions' mustered only three hits in the contest and went down by way of the "K" on eight occasions.

Samantha Esque (Jr.-Springfield, Pa.) earned the win (6-3) for the Eagles while GCU's Abby Merryman fell to 6-7 in the complete-game defeat.

GAME TWO

The home team mounted a quick 4-0 advantage in Game Two with a run in the first and three more in the second. The Lions roared back tie it up with four runs in the top of the third, courtesy of an RBI infield hit from Schroeder, a two-run single off the bat of Alycia Marsello and a ribbie single to left by Hardiman.

Post snapped the stalemate in the bottom of the fourth after another run-scoring double by Schaffer and a Georgian Court miscue brought in two. Both squads plated a single tally in the fifth inning to make the score 7-5 Eagles. The Lions were able to push one more run across in the seventh on a #Stefanie Aplin two-bagger to right, cutting the deficit to one, but that would be as close as GCU would be able to get.

The bullpen would earn decisions for both teams as Schaffer (4-3) hurled 4.2 innings of one-hit relief to secure the victory for Post. Merryman took the loss for the Lions in 3.2 innings of work.

Schroeder went 2-for-4 with three runs scored for GCU in the losing effort.

GCU gets right back at it on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Wilmington University to take on the reigning CACC champion Wildcats.
