New Castle, Del.- It was a lost Sunday for the Georgian Court University softball team as the Lions dropped a pair of 4-0 decisions at Wilmington University in a rematch of the 2014 Central Atantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship game.
GCU, after mustering just six hits on the afternoon, falls to 10-24 (9-7 CACC) while the reigning conference champions improve to 20-11 (11-5 CACC).
GAME ONEThe Wildcats scored all four of their runs over the first three frames with a run in the first, two in the second, and an insurance tally in the third en route to the smooth-sailing, 4-0 shutout.
Chelsea Botsch (Sr.-Smyrna, Del.) dominated the Lions, permitting two hits and two walks while striking out 15 in the complete-game shutout.Â
Abby Merryman (6.0 IP, 6 H, 4Â R, 1 ER, 1 K) suffered the defeat for GCU.
GAME TWOIt was a case of different game, same result for the Lions in the nightcap as GCU was only able to collect four hits in the contest. Wilmington plated two runs in the second and another pair in the fifth to secure the sweep.
Brooke Lachette (So.-Aldan, Pa.) painted the masterpiece this time around, striking out three in the complete-game win.
Katie Sorochka (6.0 IP. 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) dropped to 4-9 for GCU. Wilmington pitchers have now fired 44.2 consecutive innings of shutout softball.
Dara Schroeder collected two of the Lions four knocks.
Georgian Court returns to the First State on Tuesday afternoon for another CACC double-dip, this time at Goldey-Beacom College.
